It&#8217;s well made. And it&#8217;s suitable for short hops about town. But it&#8217;s not up to a Yamaha Nouvo Elegance, Nouvo SX or Honda PCX for all around Pattaya driving<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\t\t<figure class=\"wp-block-jetpack-videopress jetpack-videopress-player\" style=\"\" >\n\t\t\t<div class=\"jetpack-videopress-player__wrapper\"> <iframe title=\"VideoPress Video Player\" aria-label='VideoPress Video Player' width='474' height='267' src='https:\/\/videopress.com\/embed\/UVyYN2AP?cover=1&amp;autoPlay=0&amp;controls=1&amp;loop=0&amp;muted=0&amp;persistVolume=1&amp;playsinline=0&amp;preloadContent=metadata&amp;useAverageColor=1&amp;hd=0' frameborder='0' allowfullscreen data-resize-to-parent=\"true\" allow='clipboard-write'><\/iframe><script src='https:\/\/v0.wordpress.com\/js\/next\/videopress-iframe.js?m=1674852142'><\/script><\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/figure>\n\t\t\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a jewel of a bike with Vespa inspired Italian&nbsp;bodywork. &nbsp;And it has top notch Yamaha build quality. &nbsp;But neither the Yamaha Filano or its floorboard equipped motor scooter cousins can match the handling prowess of a <a href=\"http:\/\/alphapro.com\/funhouse\/2015\/05\/02\/pattayas-lightening-quick-yamaha-elegance\/\">Yamaha Elegance<\/a>. &nbsp; By cousins I mean 125 c.c. class bikes that have floorboards. &nbsp;Such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alphapro.com\/augustlooking13\/hondaclick.htm\">Honda Click,<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/thailand.carbay.com\/en\/new-motorcycles\/honda\/scoopy-i\">Honda Scoopy,<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yamaha-motor.co.id\/product\/new-fino-125-bluecore-grande\">Yamaha Fino<\/a>. &nbsp; Nor can they match the handling prowess and road worthiness of a<a href=\"http:\/\/alphapro.com\/funhouse\/2015\/05\/01\/2012-yamaha-nouvo-sx-performance-predictions\/\"> Nouvo 125 SX<\/a>, &nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/alphapro.com\/funhouse\/2015\/05\/04\/honda-pcx-125-pcx-150-showdown\/\">Honda PCX<\/a> or even a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Honda_Wave_series\">Honda Wave<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-reason-is-the-extensive-bracing-of-these-other-models\">The reason is the extensive bracing of these other models.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of this bracing, motorbikes such as the Nouvo Elegance and Honda PCX are called <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Underbone\">underbones<\/a>. &nbsp;This bracing makes the bike a unified whole that is capable of excellent directional stability&nbsp;and responsiveness. &nbsp; Filanos, Scoopies, Honda Clicks, etc have a big open space where the tube framing of an underbone would go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This open area combined with a floorboard is great for having a lot of foot room. &nbsp;It also offers a lot of room for hanging grocery bags and the like. &nbsp; But whereas there&#8217;s very little difference between the structural layout of an underbone and conventional motorcycle, bikes with floorboards are scooters. &nbsp;And a scooter cannot begin to match a conventional motorcycle&#8217;s stability and all around handling capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-but-a-yamaha-filano-is-what-it-is-nbsp-think-of-it-as-a-glorified-small-golf-kart-on-two-wheels-and-you-just-might-be-happy-with-it\">But a Yamaha Filano is what it is. &nbsp;Think of it as a glorified small golf kart on two wheels and you just might be happy with it.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can carry a lot of things with it such as groceries and so long as you keep your speed down to a sedate pace you will look good going down to the beach in your shorts and sandals or picking up a few groceries at the Local Seven Eleven. &nbsp;My real beef is with faster small scooters such as the Honda Click that pretend to be in the same class as a Yamaha Nouvo Elegance. &nbsp;Or in the same class as the new Nouvo SX that&#8217;s replaced it. &nbsp; But I have equal disdain for such albatrosses such as the Honda Forza or Taiwanese built Sym 400. &nbsp; Such bikes are far too bulky to do well threading through city traffic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Yamaha Filano is not one of the best handling motorbikes you can buy for driving in Pattaya and similar Thailand cities.
