Here one finds an interesting and sometimes slightly odd mix of people. I remember going there over twenty-five years ago. They had a barber chair right as you came in the front door. There was an assortment of colorful jukeboxes and on the wall were puppets of television characters I used to watch on TV as a kid.

To say this place gives you a touch of nostalgia is an understatement.

In one room people would play darts. In two rooms they had wooden booths and tables. They served a lot of imported beer back then. But in those days I lived over on the Missouri side not too far away. It's still not that far but now that I'm on the East Side my nightlife is closer to home.

They still have a lot of imported beer at Blueberry Hill but now the imports have been been joined by Microbrews in assorted flavors. Pictures of famous nationally known celebrities who have socialized at Blueberry Hill adorn the walls. The jukeboxes and the puppets are still here but the place has gotten even bigger, now that it takes up a whole city block.

Two weeks ago I took the Miata over to the St Louis side where I took pictures in Forest Park and at Washington University. Lunch was at Blueberry Hill and I ate at the bar, talking to the bartender. He was a young guy and he was a rich store of information about the Delmar Loop, Blueberry Hill, and several night spots not far away. The microbrews were supplied by the Schlafly Brewing Company. Now Tom Schlafly owns the Microbrewery and he went to the same prep school I went to but he was several years younger than me. The bartender told me an interesting story. Anheuser Busch didn't want Tom's beer floating around town and when Tom started having problems with the beer making giant he went to work. Turns out Tom is a lawyer and even Anheuser Busch couldn't get the better of him. Now I don't think much of too many lawyers but there's a handful I like. I likes my beer and Tom makes some great stuff and you can even buy it here over on the East side.

Now why am I doing a web page for Blueberry Hill when they have their own web page? Guess it's because I think it's a great bar. After all, it's got 11 domestic beers on tap including Tom's microbrews, 31 domestic bottle beers on their menu, some of them with odd names such as "Blackened Voodoo" and "Pete's Strawberry Blonde", not to mention five foreign beers on tap and twenty-eight imported beers sold by the bottle.
