There is very little Soi Six Magic to be found in
most bars in Pattaya, and not just in Soi Six bars,
but everywhere.
The late
afternoon started out great. Because Surf and Turf was playing great music as I swam back
and forth doing 400-meter laps. That's two-hundred-meter lengths
between the buoys. So, each time I swim to the outermost buoys and
back to my favorite beach side restaurant, I've completed a quarter
mile lap. I'm good for 70 minutes. But the icing on the cake is I
can hear the restaurant's music clearly whenever I get within 100
meters of it.
Surf and Turf gears its music for wealthy Thais, Russians,
Europeans, Chinese who live nearby.
And for well-heeled tourists who can afford
Wongamat Beach's four- and five-stars hotels and resorts. And guys
like me who appreciate an area that's far from the beaten crowd who
prefer Central Pattaya's nonstop nightlife action.

Video with Mali at Sweet Bar
So even though I've lived here for 20 years now, Soi Six is a rude
shock for me tonight. Because practically every bar here is playing
what it passes for music as loud as it can. Making the entire street
resonate with amplified noise.

Mali and I start off at Sweet Bar where the manager plies us with
tequila where Soi Six magic starts to assert itself the more shots
we drink.
Here at Sweet Bar, Mali will become our DJ,
favorite (and only) female vocalist, and entertainer. For two
reasons. 1. She's willing to play the part and 2. management
encourages her to strut her stuff.

None of my friends will join us, with the
exception of Lyle. Because all of them find Soi Six to be too loud
and noisy. We will hit three more bars before we high tail it out to
Soi Chaiyapoon. Because Mali has finally convinced me that most of
Soi Six's clientele (falang) totally enjoys all the loud obnoxious
noise, that begins with electro mindless crap and ends in Hip Hop.
In the past I've been blaming this on the bar girls. But now I'm
starting to realize that most of the bars here, run their YouTube
music play lists in accordance with what they feel most of their
customers want.
Or that's what most of the younger guys
want. And it's getting to be more and more obvious that most guys in
the Soi Six bars are getting to be younger and younger. Thankfully
this is not the case with Sweet Bar.
