Le Jardin Suisse--Unsurpassed French Swiss
Cuisine where the food is
French-Swiss while the setting is
wondrously quiet
Leave it to the French to get the ambience
right, because Le Jardin Suisse is by far the quietest restaurant on
Naklua Soi 16, so quiet in fact that you might just miss it once the Soi
makes its abrupt right angled turn to the North. But the setting
is beyond reproach. The tour busses are not muffled so although
there are other good restaurants on this Soi the din is terrible.
There should be a law against all these polluting buses and trucks whose
owners understand just one thing---that money is number one so let's not
restrict the exhaust or sound muffling so we can extract the last one
tenth of a mile per gallon. But it's quiet here, and the
restaurant owners aim to please. They even put up with my trying
out my poorly remembered French language skills on them.
I'll often have my
breakfast here. For one thing my condo's just across the street
and at 120 baht, the price is more than fair. The coffee's first
rate, and then there are those extra little touches such as real French
mustard and that rich jam that's imported from Switzerland.
For dinner I've found the pasta to be excellent here and so if the
Salmon. There's also that Swiss specialty called Roesti, which
comes several different ways, but I haven't tried the Fondues yet.
But whatever you get, this is a terrific place to unwind with a beer or
two, fine wine or cocktails because the ambience just doesn't get any
better than what you will find here.
