Unquestionably
Bake is a St Louis Metro East strip club icon. Disc Jockey, doorman,
parking lot attendant, bartender, and club manager, Bake's done it all.
Ask dancers and ex dancers who've worked with him
years ago back when Bake worked at the Centreville, IL club when Platinum ran
it. "Where's Bake now?" they ask me. "I miss
him."
Back in those days I used to bring my digital
camera into the Centreville Club, usually with Jade who was my partner in crime
then. We'd wind up in the VIP room with the camera and laptop which
we set on a table. We'd snap up an entertainer or two, a waitress, and
nearly always, Bake, if he was there. Jade would kid me over who was the
better photographer or handier on the laptop. We'd all cut up and
have a blast and Bake was invariably in the middle of it all.
Now Bake's the kind of guy you want to have
around you. I had heard stories about the occasional fight started by a
customer in the Centreville club and how Bake had been as quick as a cat getting
to the bad guys, once jumping a table that was in his way, quite a feat for a
guy who goes over three hundred pounds.
Your first impression of Bake is: "I don't
want to mess with him." Your second impression is likely to be:
"I don't even want to mess with him verbally."
got that kind of wit.
He can impale you with his tongue alone. Third impression will come when
you sit down with him and talk one on one, on almost any subject. He's
opinionated, knowledgeable, logical, and reasonable.
Above all, he's fun. Just click on this
picture
as you keep reading and you will see what I mean. Just one of
my many "Bake stories". It's a bright sunny afternoon and
Bake's working outside the Platinum Club watching the parking lot. Roxy's,
a PT's club is just across the street less than seventy-five yards from
Platinum. In his hand are free passes to the Platinum
Club. "Should been here Friday night," Bake tells
me. "I must have gotten a hundred guys to come in. They
were going to Roxy's so I yelled to them: "Get your free passes here
for Platinum. The place was really jumping."
About then, the parking lot attendant over at
Roxy's walks over to us. He's a young guy I hadn't seen in months but we
had gotten along well. He came over just to talk to me. Two
customers are about to walk into Roxy's when Bake calls out to them:
"Come on over and get your free passes to Platinum." The Roxy's
parking lot attendant laughs. It is obvious that Bake and the parking lot
attendants over at Roxy's get along well. (I can just see Bake
working over at a baseball park hawking hot dogs and beer).
Here you see Bake working as club DJ
But don't let the serious expression on his face fool you. And Like
the other Platinum DJ's, his selections of music are usually excellent.
He's just old enough to fit right in with most of the clubs
customers. So his music fits right in with their tastes.
And if you want to listen to punk rock, hang out with the punks because Bake is
no punk. Oh, and one more thing, hanging out with him is as much fun as
hanging out with just about anybody.
