On his firs visit to Pattaya Crazy Czech found the Soi Chaiyapoon Crazy Fox bar to be infitely superior to LK Metro’s go go bars.
Before we went to Soi Chaiyapoon Crazy Fox, we went to Lady Love go go bar on LK Metro.
I had not seen Crazy Czech in over 20 years when I last lived in the U.S. This was CC’s first visit to Thailand. And he was only staying for 14 days. CC had heard a lot about Walking Street and its go go bars, so before his arrival he was looking foward to hitting Walking Street’s go go bars.
I knex better, of course. Because after I had lived in Pattaya 20 years I had decided that Walking Street was the epitome of boredom. But I wanted Crazy Czech to find this out for himself. So I took him to Soi 6 first. In broad daylight. Just to give him an overview on what Soi Six was all about. Although we stayed on six all of 15 miinutes we ran into three motorcycle taxi drivers I knew. And all three of them told us to go to Soi Six because Walking Street was no good.
Mali who is far my favorite drinking partner made sure he got to Soi Six the same night as our brief afternoon visit. That night Crazy Czech scored dan upstairs liason with a woman who I left should be his number one choice. But he found a Soi Chaiyapoon Crazy Fox bargirl more to his liking.
Alhough Crazy Czech fully appreciate all the choice that Soi Six offered with its 100 bars within one block of each other he had found Crazy Fox more to his liking.
And that was because of the prevalence of all that godawful noise on Soi Six that I call Da Da music. That’s the electro shit two beat crap that the bars on Six pass off as music. By the end of the night Crazy Czech for so sick of it that he left Chris (one of my best friends here) and I drinking with the manager at what I consider to be one of Soi Six’s favorite bars. Crazy Czech was so turned off by the bar’s loud music that he waited sight out in the middle of Soi Six waiting for me to finish my beer.
The falang managers of bars just don”t get it. I have six friends who can’t stand all the shit music falang bar owners play here in Pattaya that they don’t come fo these bars. Except for those times that I put such pressure on them that they feel compelled to come to these bars with me. They are Gene, Lenny, and PlOne to name just several of my friends. All three of them are Americans who are 70 and older.
My theory on Soi Six’s awful music is this. Most of the Soi Six bar managers are falang, being in Thai terms from the UK, the U.S. , France or other Western countries. These falang managers as a rule do not stay for long as a bar manager. And that'[s because of all the undo pressure the owners of their bars subject them to, This results in their being scared to death of being fired as managers. Not just scared but terrified. So they tend to allow their bars girls and their bars’ mamasans to play whatever music they like. Because they’ do not want any confrontation beween with Thai employees, and especially over what kind of music the bar plays.
In general Thais do not respect foreigners. Let me explain.
Most Thais are extremely nationalisitc. Let’s take your average American or German. Germans and Americans will not hesitate to critisize their governments. Whereas most Thais are so ultranationalistic that they deeply resent any foreigner who critisixes Thai culture, government, or their religion. In their mindes Thailand is the finest country in the world. While Thais are the finest examples of the human race that ever existed.
Therefore any Foreign bar or restaurant owner who disagrees with his staff is wrong and only because he is not Thai. Whereas a one of my German friends told me, “Thais feel they are the master race whereas we falang are the Untermenchen (In German this means subhuman.)
On the other hand Thai employees show a lot of respect for their employers provided they are Thai. Because of this automatid respect most THais have for their Thai employers, the Thai employers do not tolerate any insubordination from their Thai employees.
I find that most Thai owned and managed bars will not tolerate any disrespect from their employees.
And this is a good thing. Because Thai owned and managed bars play their bar music for their customers and not for their bar girls whereas the opposite is almost always true of falang managed bars who allow themselves to be intimidaed by their bars girls and mamasans.
Which brings us to Soi Chaiyapoon Crazy Fox.
The mamasan who runs Crazy Fox is Anna. While Crazy Fox is one of four bars that have the same female Thai owner. Who is quite nice and I say that in sprite of all the disparaging things I just wrote about Thais. The four bars are Smoke and Kisses, Lolly Pop and Smoke and Mirrors. And as for Anna, both Mali and I love Anna to death regardless of all the uncomplimentary things I just said about Thai bar mamasans on Soi Six.
While speaking of LK Metro’s Go Go bars let me just say what Crazy Czech said about them.
“I’m never going back to them,” CC. told me. And when Mali and I offered to take him to another go go bar after going to Lady Love, C.C. replied. “All the customers there are totally brain dead to be even in such a boring place.” So we left Lady Love and headed straight to Crazy Fox as soon as we finished our drinks.
Anna is one of Mali’s favorite people. While I have always liked Anna. I’ve known her for something like 9 years now, and find that she’s always looking out for me.
Whenever I leave her bar, she’s always offering to order a taxi for me. While when she was managing Smoke and Kisses on Six, everytime I walked by Smoke and Kisses she would tell me, “I have new small lady for you.”{ Anna knows what I like, whether it’s what kind of ladies I want or what I’m drinking. Whereas Mali often refers to Anna as “Mother Anna.”
Speaking again for Lady Love go go ba, the DJ there was playing non top da da music. Which once again is electo shit for the brain’ dead. And believe me Pattaya’s got more than its fair share of brain dead falan g. Whereas at Crazy Fox, Anna let Mali change the music whenever she liked and later once I sent Mali home in a taxi, Anna let me play my mussic non stop. And if you ask me, Mali is a damn good DJ because she knows the best THai music and she is even willing to play my favrotie Western music. A prime example being, April Steven’s “Teach me Tiger’ and Taste of Honey’s “Boogie Oogie Oogie “
