.Trumpster Buffaloes beware—Kwai Kwai takes on a new meaning as the wild nightlife of Pattaya fuels reflection and unexpected fights
In Thailand, “Kwai” means buffalo. Calling someone a “Kwai” is calling them an idiot. So, here’s Kwai Kwai, a song Mali tells me is a Thai love song—though tonight, it’s dedicated to all the Trumpster buffaloes.
As a writer and videographer, I get to shape stories however I see fit. And tonight, after shooting eight videos, the night took a wild turn.
A fight.
The first I’ve been in after twenty years in Thailand. It happened past 2 a.m. after Mali had taken a taxi home. While buying a drink for one of the bar girls, I suddenly felt big hands groping me—from behind. My first instinct? Some Trumpster buffalo nonsense. But no—this guy was English, a notorious troublemaker in the Pattaya bar scene.
Fueled by ten tequilas and the rush of adrenaline, I went after him. The girl pointed him out, and I didn’t hesitate—I swung first. The next thing I knew, the bar was pulling me away, kicking him out as I shouted, Let me go after him! I’ll kill him!
By morning, my left eye was swollen with a nasty black bruise. Too drunk to remember much, I hit Soi Six early to piece the night back together. The bar managers—great guys—showed me the footage. I saw myself charge up, delivering a straight punch. Trouble was, it wasn’t strong enough to put him down.
Why did I end up in a fight after all these years?
Maybe because deep down, I feel I’ve lost my country. The U.S. is unraveling, slipping into history like past regimes that destroyed themselves from within. A nation that once prided itself on freedom now teeters on something darker.
Sure, unemployment is low. But voting for Trump? That earns you the title of Trumpster Buffalo—nothing more than another pawn of the intellectually challenged.
