Is Amazon threatening to discontinue my book, Extreme Guns and Babes for an Exotic World? Or is this a self-righteous imposter who claims to be speak for Amazon?
I don’t think so because I believe Amazon is a very competent organization.
So if Amazon no longer publishes Extreme Guns and Babes for an Adult World this would be the the hallmark of stupidity and incompetence. I got an email from an obviously self-righteous person claiming she is part of a team monitoring copyright claims to books carried by Amazon. This woman threatened to pull Extreme Guns and Babes for an Exotic world off Amazon’s listings within five days if I could not prove i had the right to my published material including the many pictures of exotic entertainers in the book. As if this were not enough the woman asked me to supply photo id’s of all the models I used in my book.
So is Amazon threatening to discontinue my book. Or is it a self-righteous imposter who actually believes she is doing the right thing.
Who obviously lives according to a medieval mindset from Spanish Inquisition Times.
I am 90 percent confident that this woman did not represent the views and policies of Amazon, First off, a book is automatically copyrighted as soon as it is published even if the book’s copyright is not officially registered with the Library of Congress. I published this book with Amazon in 2013. So I clearly have the copyright for my book thanks to Amazon putting it on the market. As for this woman asking me to find all 26 models I used in the book, nothing could be more illogical.
So is Amazon threatening to discontinue my book if I do not supply Amazon with photo id’s of my models?
First off every model signed a release that used either her driver’s license or social security along with her address and other key information. I sent most of the releases to Xtreme Magazine which had been publishing nearly all the gun articles that would later on appear in the book. Just imagine how difficult it would be for me to now located all 26 of the models nearly twenty years after I took their pictures in my Xtreme Magazine Gun articles. I could probably locate five or six of the models. Eventually, and through spending a lot of my time that I could use for more important projects.
Now suppose I ask the five or six women I used as my models to provide me with new releases or photo id’s. Most likely everyone of them would reply, “Are you out of your mind, Jack? I already signed a release.”
The woman claiming to be with Amazon is not only asking me to be doing something that is unreasonable and Illogical. She’s asking me to do the impossible.
And within five days. And this woman is proposing that I am not the author of the book, even though I own all copyrights to the book. So now I will explain the difference between copyrights and what I am doing about it.
To get a certified copyright from the Library of Congress it’s going to cost an author at least sixty-five dollars and undergoing a fairly substantial waiting period. So why do it when the author’s work is already publicized? The answer is the standard copyright that is created upon publication of a writer’s book is required if the author decides to sue someone for copyright infringement. I have now paid my fees for the additional copyright protection that comes when a copyright is registered with the Library of Congress. I have also uploaded my book covers and all inside content of Extreme Guns and Babes for an Exotic World to the U.S. copyright office. So it is now only a matter of time before my entire book is properly registered.
But this entire problem with this woman who claims to represent the policies of Amazon just might be a blessing in disguise. Even if Amazon is not threatening to discontinue my book.
Because I am one week from republishing Extreme Guns and Babes for an Adult World with Lulu.com as a fourth edition of the book. The book’s front and back covers in my Amazon edition of the book–First edition in full color. Which retails for a prohibitive color edition for $39.00. While a much more affordable paperback version in black and white can be bought for $13.95. Or a Kindle Smart Phone edition for $9.95 which is absolutely gorgeous. But if my buyers think the Amazon book covers are beautiful just wait until they see the fourth edition from lulu.com. This new edition’s covers are sensational state of the art book covers. Which will entice buyers to want to see, feel and touch his copy of Extreme Guns and Babes for an Adult World.
I am confident that if the fourth edition of Extreme Guns and Babes for an Adult World were put on actual book shelves all over the world that I’d sell thousands of the book due to the outstanding, one of a kind book covers alone.
But here’s the rub. I did the book’s covers, which are absolutely stunning. But I doubt if mainline book stores will put this book on their shelves due to its adult content. The irony is that I would never have been talented enough to design such gorgeous book covers had I not been a professional photographer in the American adult entertainment industry. And although many professional photographers who work for adult magazines such as Cheri, Playboy, Hustler and Xtreme have outstanding graphics arts professionals do all their layout for them, many of us had to learn to use Photoshop to do our own graphics design work. Now I am not as proficient or skilled as the best graphics artists. But I feel that I acquired enough skill to design some truly stunning book covers that are equal to anything that’s out there.
